Today we celebrate the birthday of La Divina - the legendary soprano, Maria Callas. Critics praised her bel canto technique, wide-ranging voice, and dramatic gifts as she tackled nearly every major soprano role in the genre. As Opera News put it: "she's still the definition of the diva as artist..." Today we celebrate this great interpreter of universal language of music, with gratitude.

A fun #opera fact: one of the first roles she was offered in America was the beloved role of Cio-Cio-San for a Met Opera performance in Philadelphia. However she declined the role for she felt she was "too fat" to portray the geisha and did not wish to perform the opera in English.
