FGO Family Day

Florida Grand Opera & South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center Present the Second Annual Family Day

Sunday, February 1, 2015, 10:00am–1:30pm

Perfect for children of all ages, FGO’s Family Day offers a hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience, with interactive workshops, musical activities, and a live performance of family-friendly opera selections.

Young and old alike will enjoy learning to play a tune or two in the Instrument Petting Zoo, an interactive station where participants can actually pick up and play real instruments, like those used in the FGO orchestra. Even the teenagers can take part in FGO’s Wig, Mask, and Prop Shop where everyone will get to build, paint, and decorate their own opera production piece. In addition, free face painting will be offered to those who complete multiple activities throughout the day! A new addition to this year’s Family Day includes the FGO Kids Chorus. Young musicians with little to no musical experience can now participate in this hour-long session of rhythm and singing activities to teach the basics in music performance!

The afternoon will end with a performance by Florida Grand Opera’s Young Artists, who will perform a variety of beloved Spanish-language music, including zarzuela. Children who stay until the end of the performance will be given a free goodie bag, which includes an “Opera Funtime” book, generously donated by the Young Patronesses of the Opera.
