The event is focused on FGO’s dynamic General Director & CEO, Susan T. Danis. Her over 20 years experience in the opera industry makes her an interesting subject for a Susan’s Salon, since not many people know what it takes to run an opera company. Danis will share her experiences and humorous anecdotes while audiences are entertained by FGO’s Young Artists performing opera selections that help tell the story of Susan’s career.

Florida Grand Opera (FGO) and NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale are pleased to announce their second installment of “Art Inspired Song” on Tuesday, March 17 at 3:30pm, an informative and entertaining concert series of public concerts in which FGO Young Artists perform a variety of pieces reflecting thematic and time period components from the Museum’s current exhibitions.
For this concert, FGO’s Young Artists will perform a variety of pieces with American themes from American composers to complement the Museum’s “American Scene Photography: Martin Z. Margulies” exhibition. Selections include from Show Boat, South Pacific, Candide, and many more.
Prior to the concert, enjoy tea sandwiches, scones, cakes and a selection of hot teas at 2:30 pm. Cost of admission for the tea is $25 Members; $32 non-members. Advance reservations required.

Community Conversations: "In Endless Waiting Rooms"

Join Florida Grand Opera (FGO) and the Florida International University (FIU) School of International and Public Affairs for an afternoon of personal reflections on the experience of leaving home and traveling to a strange, new land. Punctuated by music from FGO’s upcoming production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s celebrated work The Consul, this program will take the audience on a journey from Europe to Cuba to Haiti and finally to the Middle East. Together we will pause and reflect on the struggles faced by individuals and communities who fled violence, political repression, or abject poverty and embraced the challenges and hopes found within the Miami landscape.
This event was coordinated by the Václav Havel Initiative for Human Rights & Diplomacy, the European Studies Program, and the Cuban Research Institute at the School of International and Public Affairs at Florida International University and Florida Grand Opera. This event is funded in part by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Thank you to the Miracle Theatre, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Barbara Stein for additional support.
