A letter from composer Fredrick Kaufman

 

Dear fellow classical music lovers,

This past October Florida Grand Opera launched a crowdfunding campaign to help support the recording of my composition, Stars and Distances. I want to truly thank all of you who have donated or helped to spread the word about this project. Unfortunately, with so many worthy projects and organizations fighting for attention, we did not meet our fundraising goal, and we still have a ways to go.

A lot of energy went into the making of the Stars and Distances CD, and the end product is spectacular. Now that it's finished, we are trying to give this project the funding and attention it deserves. I’m sure you can imagine how hard everyone worked to make this happen, both artistically and financially.

I am honored to say that FGO has agreed to make Stars and Distances the focus of their Give Miami Day fundraising efforts, which will take place in this Thursday. For every donation given to FGO in on Thursday, November 19, 2015 through The Miami Foundation, every dollar will go towards the remainder of this crowdfunding initiative.

My fear is that after having garnered all kinds of marvelous energy to create this album, it may never reach the public. I believe that this CD is worth making a reality, and I am immensely proud of it.

The artists involved in the album, many of whom are current and former members of FGO’s Young Artist program, are world class. After all, how often does one get to hear an exceptional organization like Florida Grand Opera performing such an accessible, and (if I can say so myself) beautiful work like this, sung by such gorgeous voices?

Finally, if not most importantly, the recording of Stars and Distances is to serve as part of the new Frost Planetarium, which will open in Downtown Miami next year. We have the opportunity to bring contemporary, innovative classical music to an entirely new generation! It will be experienced by thousands of people for an extended period of time, as the work will play as part of a continuous loop throughout the planetarium.

Stars and Distances is scheduled to be released this month by Naxos Records. Please help me to launch this work in the way it deserves to be released. I implore you to choose Florida Grand Opera on Give Miami Day, Thursday, November 19. Every dollar counts!
